Introduction to Positive Affirmations

The jury’s out, and the effects of the mindful use of positive affirmations is becoming increasingly more widely understood and accepted.

Below is a list of affirmations to get you going.

The list is not exhaustive and will be added to. This is a live article so will be added to from time to time. Also the categories are simply suggestions and are not intended to be definitive, unwavering or absolute. Use whichever works for you, from any category, these are suggestions:

Positive Affirmations for Confidence

  • I am worthy
  • I have come this far, and I will continue to move forward whatever arrises
  • Nothing can stop me
  • I am enough as I am
  • What is here and now is what I value most and I have a lot to give
  • The person I want to be is already inside me and I do not need to prove that
  • There are no obstacles to what I can achieve
  • I am not afraid
  • The power resides in me to accept myself
  • I am calm and in control

Positive Affirmations for Mood

  • I am fine
  • Everything I feel is okay
  • Whatever arises inside me, I accept
  • There is no right way to feel or to not feel, just what is
  • All my experiences are based on my perception of them
  • How I feel changes all the time
  • This too shall pass
  • I am allowed to feel sad/happy/hurt/how I feel
  • No-one has access to my experience and so I own my thoughts and feelings
  • I am always in control

Positive Affirmations for Work

  • I bring so much talent to my role
  • I am proud of my creativity
  • There are days where I will not achieve what I set out to, and that is fine
  • No matter what happens, I know my worth
  • My organisation/team does not define me as a person
  • I am so much more than the job I do, and that is okay
  • I am fulfilling a higher purpose through what I do
  • Successes can be small and still worthy of praise
  • Work is not everything
  • I get satisfaction from helping others, even when they do not recognise my full value

Positive Affirmations for Family

  • I love my family
  • Whatever happens in life, I know that I will always put my family first
  • I can choose my family just as I do friends
  • Family is my purpose in life and that can be enough
  • I am a loving my parent/sibling/child
  • There is no perfect way to parent
  • Even if my loved one does not align with me, I can allow space for difference
  • If I feel my boundaries are being overstepped regularly, it is okay for me to distance myself
  • Family does not have to mean ‘biological’
  • Where I am able to, I am emotionally available to my family during difficult times

Positive Affirmations Targeting Male Stereotypes

  • I am good enough as I am
  • Wealth does not define my value
  • Being competitive is not the only way to express my drive and motivation
  • Even if I do not have a partner, or have no interest in exploring now, that does not make me any less worthy of love
  • Being single does not have to mean I am always looking for a partner
  • I am deserving of love and respect and I will give this out in return
  • Emotions are normal for all humans beings and I do not need to hide them
  • I allow myself time for self-care
  • Whatever my attributes are physically, I am still worthy of love, empathy or companionship
  • I do not need to compare with others

Positive Affirmations Targeting Female Stereotypes

  • The way I look does not define my worth
  • Being in a relationship or married is not my only goal in life
  • I do not have to be emotionally available all the time
  • Whether or not I decide to have children, I do not feel pressure either way
  • I do not need to compare situations with other people
  • Beauty is subjective
  • I am a free and unique individual who does not need to be defined by gender norms
  • Anyway I choose to live my life is my freedom
  • I am enough as I am
  • I am not intimidated by challenges

Positive Affirmations for Uncertainty

  • I do not need to feel in control all the time
  • When there are things I do not know, I have the right to feel however I am
  • Situations out of my sphere of control are not my responsibility
  • This too shall pass
  • Nothing is permanent
  • I can choose to accept a situation without endorsing it
  • I am not to blame for unforeseen circumstances
  • Uncertainty is a normally part of everyday life
  • I can choose to place my attention on what I feel is within my sphere of control
  • Leaning into uncertainty can yield growth in personal development
